To all past and present supporters of the SPC Daniel G. Dolan Memorial Ride (Dan’s Ride) and HOOAH (Helping Out Our American Heroes),

We have completed seven very successful years hosting Dan’s Ride because of the amazing and generous support of all of you.  In that time, we have raised over $63,400 for veterans and veteran causes.  We established a scholarship program at Weber State University and sent care packages to deployed United States military forces.

During the past couple months, the HOOAH board of directors made the difficult decision to make last year’s ride our final event.  This decision was made in part by the Dolan family’s feeling that it was time to move on, not to forget Danny or our veterans, but to move forward with their lives.  This event was always a labor of love but the time and commitment required took a toll on the planners and coordinators of the event.  Another big factor in our decision was the ever increasing cost of insurance.  We always strived to keep costs to a minimum and ensure as much of your donation as possible went to our vets.

The decision came with a lot of emotions as well because the ride is a source of a lot of great memories.  We had some really enjoyable rides, good food, awesome entertainment, fun moments, and above all… great friendships.

We had seven years without a bike down, embracing the “shiny side up!”  Safety was always a high priority but we tried to provide it without sacrificing enjoyment.

We do want you to know, that not a single penny raised went to any of our staff or board members.  Everyone was a volunteer and we want to thank everyone that donated their time and efforts to help put this event together.

We also want to thank all of you that gave so generously in our auctions, raffles, or cash contributions.  None of this was possible without you.

HOOAH, our 501c3 non-profit organization, will continue until all funds left in the account are distributed properly in accordance with our mission statement and in the best manner to represent our original purpose for the event.  This will include considerations of the scholarship program and some very worthwhile programs we are evaluating.  Watch for announcements of future presentations. We welcome your attendance and involvement whenever possible.

If you have any questions, we welcome them and will discuss at our next board meeting, if needed, for a proper reply.  Email us at  We also would appreciate your comments posted on Dan’s Ride Facebook Page

The SPC Daniel G. Dolan Memorial Ride…

is an annual event to honor and remember the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who have given their lives, as well as those who have been wounded, in service to this great nation. This ride is to honor their heroism and their sacrifice. The proceeds from Dan’s Ride this year will go to Helping Out Our American Heroes (HOOAH), our 501(c)3 non-profit organization, dedicated to military veterans and their families.

The ride begins at Weber County Fairground with a free breakfast, travels through some of Northern Utah’s most scenic mountain passes and canyons, a ride-thru the George E Wahlen Veterans Home, and ends at the Weber County Fairgrounds for lunch, drawings, an auction, and live entertainment.  For event schedule, click here.

SPC Daniel G. Dolan, 19, died August 27, 2006 during combat operations in Baghdad, Iraq, when his M1126 Stryker Vehicle came in contact with enemy forces using an improvised explosive device and small arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington. Dan grew up in Roy, Utah.   Many of you rode and stood for Dan with the Patriot Guard Riders at his service in 2006.  For more about Dan, go to Our Hero page.

This years ride begins at the Weber County Fairgrounds more info…

Thank you for supporting and being a part of the continued success of Dan’s Ride!  After totaling all the proceeds and deducting the unavoidable expenses for the event, we raised another $10,400.  That brings our 7 year total to over $63,400!  Thank you for all your generous support!!!

Although there are some minimal costs associated with hosting an event like this, all of the organizers, staff, and board members are strictly volunteers.  Our books are available for inspection on request.

Where does the money raised go?  About 35%  of this money has gone to projects, such as sending neck coolers and Christmas packages to our troops, financial assistance to some of our local wounded warriors, and our entire first year funds raised went to Mikes Guardian Eagle Foundation for their use on various veterans projects.  The remaining 65% has been accumulating for our Dan G. Dolan Veterans Memorial Scholarship for veterans.

HOOAH currently has a contract with Weber State University and initiated the Dan G. Dolan Veterans Memorial Scholarship.  This program grants financial assistance to qualifying veterans that have exhausted their GI Bill or other government assistance and enable them to complete their degree.  HOOAH has committed to $5,000/year for the first 5 years of the program.  This fund would not have been possible without the extreme generosity of all our supporters from Dan’s ride.

If you know of any company or individual that would be willing to step up and help by sponsoring Dan’s Ride, please contact us.
